Meet Yulanda
After earning her juris doctor degree, Yulanda discovered a fascination with education policy beyond advocacy. While working in Compliance at a public university, she saw a need for positive, sustainable change, but knew that her J.D. only had so much weight in higher education.
In order to have the kind of impact and influence she envisioned, she needed a doctorate.
"...social justice is at the core of what the program is."

Pursuing a Calling
When a mentor told Yulanda about the Executive Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership, she thought the program was created just for her. With a curriculum built on social justice, she knew it was the degree she needed to affect the changes she dreamed of.
Earning the Degree
In addition to learning from renowned educators and administrators with decades of experience, Yulanda found value in the variety of perspectives that the program represented.
In May of 2022, she became the first the first African American to graduate from the program.
Being the Change
Yulanda is now the Director of Culture, Employee Engagement, and DEIB at UT Austin. In her role, she leverages her degree to shape employee experience, helping to ensure that university staff from all backgrounds feel welcome on campus.
