Meet Roxanne
Roxanne Springman spent some of her childhood in foster care where her access to technology was limited due to safety concerns. This proved a challenge in school when she was assigned homework and projects that required devices and software that she couldn’t use.
When Roxanne’s teachers figured out why she struggled to complete her work, they were able to offer alternatives that allowed her to pass class despite her limited access.
"In my career as an instructional designer, I'm going to help teachers think of new ways they can approach their classes."

Putting Equity First
Now, as an adult, Roxanne is a college graduate with a Master's in Learning Technologies from UT. In addition to earning her degree, she completed the Learning, Equity, Action and Design (LEAD) Certificate.
One of the primary objectives of LEAD is to transform the way educators design their curricula so that accessibility for all students is a built into lesson plans from the very beginning.
Speaking Up for Kids
Because of her experiences growing up in foster care, Roxanne knew how impactful the core tenets of LEAD could be in classrooms everywhere.
She knows firsthand the transformative power of innovative instruction thanks to those teachers who recognized her struggle.
A Lifelong Passion
Using the skills and tools from her LEAD coursework, Roxanne wants to make sure no learner is left behind.
“Growing up, teachers are the ones that gave me a voice because they…made changes to their curriculum. I know that’s not happening enough in the classroom, so I want to be there to make a change.”
