Jay Zarnikau
Jay Z teaches graduate-level courses in applied statistics, research methods, and energy economics in the departments of Economics and Statistics & Data Science, as well as the LBJ School of Public Affairs.
Formerly, Jay was the president and principal of Frontier Associates LLC, which was acquired by the Gas Technology Institute in 2018. Jay was also previously the Director of Electric Utility Regulation at the Public Utility Commission of Texas.
Jay has authored or co-authored over 120 articles appearing in academic and trade journals, including IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, Energy Economics, Energy – the international journal, Resource and Energy Economics, Journal of Regulatory Economics, The Energy Journal, Energy Policy, Managerial and Decision Economics, and Empirical Economics. His research interests center on energy pricing, electricity resource planning, renewable energy, energy market design, and the application of modeling techniques to problems in resource economics.
Jay has provided expert witness testimony in over 45 regulatory proceedings in Texas, California, Arkansas, West Virginia, Virginia, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Indiana, and Arkansas.
Jay’s Ph.D. degree is from the Economics Department at The University of Texas at Austin.
