Financial Aid, Scholarships and Funding Options

Many of the courses and programs offered by TEXAS Extended Campus (TEC) departments are eligible for some kind of financial assistance. Options available vary by department and program, and individual eligibility requirements are dependent upon the type of assistance sought.

AMERICORPS EDUCATIONAL AWARDS

Individuals who completed an approved term of national service in AmeriCorps qualify for a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award, which can be used to pay for college credit courses from University Extension and professional education programs from the Center for Professional Education.

DISCOUNTS FOR UT AUSTIN FACULTY, STAFF & ALUMNI

Benefits-eligible faculty and staff of The University of Texas at Austin are eligible for a 10% discount on professional education programs from the Center for Professional Education.

Members of the Texas Exes alumni association are eligible for a 10% discount on professional education programs from the Center for Professional Education.

FEDERAL FINANCIAL AID ELIGIBILITY

Students enrolled in TEC certificate programs or courses are not eligible for federal financial aid, including federal student loans.

The only exception is for students concurrently enrolled in a degree program at UT Austin who wish to use their existing financial aid for University Extension credit courses. More information for UT Austin students is available on the University Extension website.

MILITARY, MILITARY SPOUSES & VETERANS' BENEFITS

There are a number of opportunities for active-duty military personnel, military spouses, and veterans to use education benefits with TEC departments. In addition, the Center for Professional Education offers a 10% military discount to active-duty and veteran service members on our classes and certificate programs.

For active duty military and eligible reservists, we accept Tuition Assistance (TA); Tuition Assistance – Air Force; and Tuition Assistance (TA) WAWF for Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard, which can be used to pay for college credit courses from University Extension and professional education programs from the Center for Professional Education.

For military spouses, the Center for Professional Education participates in the Department of Defense Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA) program.

For veterans, the Center for Professional Education can accept Chapter 31 Veteran Readiness and Employment (formerly called Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment) benefits. Visit their page on military and veterans' benefits for more information.

Unfortunately, we are not able to accept Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33) benefits.

PRIVATE EDUCATION/STUDENT LOANS

In some cases, the Center for Professional Education and University Extension are able to accept financial assistance payments from private lenders.

SCHOLARSHIPS

TEXAS Extended Campus offers the Road to Success Scholarship to help cover up to 80% of the cost to enroll in several professional education programs. The scholarships are need-based and offered three times a year.

UT Austin's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (UT OLLI) believes that the opportunity to take classes and participate in the rich intellectual life of this Institute should be available to all qualified adults. A limited number of financial scholarships are available through the OLLI program and excellence funds for qualified applicants.

In some cases, the Center for Professional Education and University Extension are able to accept financial assistance payments from outside scholarship programs.

TEXAS PREPAID HIGHER EDUCATION TUITION PROGRAMS

Both the Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan (TGTP) and the Texas Tuition Promise Fund (TTPF) can be used to pay for college credit courses offered by University Extension.
